Electricity bill calculator by state

Open your state for its calculator, every LT tariff category and the order it comes from. The figure beside each is the estimated bill for 200 units in a month.

Compare all states

200 units a month, 2 kW load, urban home. Includes fixed charges, built-in state subsidies and the government schemes that are on by default in each calculator; excludes duty and fuel surcharges.

How a slab tariff adds up

Most states split your units into slabs and charge each slab its own rate. Only the units that fall inside a slab pay that slab’s rate, so crossing into a higher slab never makes the earlier units dearer.

A few states work differently. Kerala charges every unit at one rate once a home goes above 250 units a month. Tamil Nadu switches to a different table above 500 units in a two-month bill. The calculator follows each state’s own rule.

Goa domestic (LTDS-II) rates, 250 units: ₹210 + ₹310 + ₹207.50 = ₹727.50 in energy charges. Each slab is charged only for the units that fall in it.

Every rate has a page number

Tariff figures on the internet are often copied from site to site and go stale. Here, each rate is read from the regulator’s order itself and stored with the document title, the page it is on and a link to the PDF.

Before a state goes live, its calculator is checked against the order’s own worked examples and, where we can find them, real bills. That check caught a 10% Puducherry surcharge that appears on bills but not in most summaries.

Questions

How is an electricity bill calculated in India?

Your discom multiplies the units you used by the rate for each slab, adds a fixed charge based on your sanctioned load, then adds any duty, fuel surcharge or other levy the state applies. Where the state pays a subsidy, it is taken off. The calculator shows each of these lines separately.

Where do the rates come from?

From each state electricity regulatory commission’s own tariff order, the legal document that sets the rates. Every rate on this site carries the order, page and a link to the PDF. We do not copy rates from other calculator sites.

Why is my real bill a little different?

Most often because of the monthly fuel surcharge (FPPAS or FPPCA), electricity duty, meter rent, arrears or a rebate. Fuel surcharges change every month and duty is set by state governments, so the estimate lists what it leaves out under each bill.

What is a telescopic tariff?

A tariff where each band of units is charged at its own rate. With slabs of 0–100 and 101–200 units, using 150 units means 100 units at the first rate and 50 at the second, not all 150 at the higher rate. Most Indian states bill homes this way.

Is the 200-unit figure in the state list the full bill?

It is the estimate for 200 units in a month at a 2 kW sanctioned load in an urban area, including fixed charges and any state subsidy the tariff order builds in. Duty and fuel surcharges are not in it.
